To Feel Alive

His heart skipped a beat
then stuttered to a stop.
It wasn’t ’til he died,
that he truly felt alive.
No more walking through the motions.
No more pretending that he cared.
Just seeing as he pleased,
and haunting where he liked.
It wasn’t ’til he breathed his last,
that he stopped feeling suffocated.
Once his body was six feet under,
he finally started to see.
He saw each sunrise and sunset,
and every small wonder.
He was what true pain was,
but he also viewed joy.
It wasn’t ’til he died,
that he thought his life a waste,
never doing anything
but walking through the paces.
His heart skipped a beat
then stuttered to a stop.
It wasn’t ’til he died,
that he truly felt alive.
